LEE KUAN YEW and HENRY GEORGE, as well as LEE HSIEN LOONG and THARMAN SHANMUGARATNAM. While the former two are deceased and the latter two are unaffiliated with MEPPIN, we believe in the public policy philosophies advocated by all of these individuals.
Rafael Rosenthal
RAFAEL JACOB GALAPO ROSENTHAL, MEPPIN’s Chief Public Policy Scientist (CPPS), is a researcher on public policy; meritocracy; merit-market policies; Land Value Taxation (LVT); Georgism; multiculturalism; as well as Singapore’s governmental, economic, and social system. His concept of meritocratic public policy seeks to bring the strands of all of this research within the cohesive whole of a new type of governmental structure. Beyond this, Mr. Rosenthal has also created a customization that optimizes the capabilities of Microsoft Windows, called RafaWay for Windows, which to-date has produced a 100% satisfaction rating from its users.
Henry George
Henry George was an American political economist, journalist, and philosopher. He is famous for popularizing the idea that land/resource rents should be captured for public use or shared, in lieu of harmful taxes on labor and productive investment. His theories are based on the belief that people should own the value they produce themselves, but that the economic value derived from land (including natural resources) should belong equally to all members of society. This means there should be no labor and capital taxes (LCT), e.g. taxes on revenue, profits, services, or goods, and that taxes should only be levied on the economic rent produced from land (which includes natural resources and opportunities).
